Cat cams use either high quality chilled iron camshaft blanks or manufacture from steel billet. Where cast blanks are available with suffucient material to generate the required profile then these are used for fast road and moderate competition applications. Where blanks are not available, extra stiffness is required or adjustable flange gears have to be machined in one piece then steel billets are prefered. Steel billets can also be Gun Drilled to remove the internal core thus removing up to 1kg of weight.
